Can You Have a Second Chance at Love?

Have you ever found yourself thinking that it’s “too late” to find love again?

I get it. I got divorced a few years ago and sometimes the older dating scene can feel like a bit of a slog.

Especially for women, I feel like the pickings can feel pretty slim.

But does that mean that it’s not possible to find love after you hit a certain age?

I don’t think so! I think that if we keep ourselves open to it that it’s always something that could be on the horizon – if you want it.

If you’ve been struggling with being alone lately and wondering when that might change, I have a few great stories to share with you.

Love at Last

As I try dating again, I can easily get bogged down by the normal dating frustrations.

That’s why I loved reading this fantastic article from Oprah Magazine. In it, author Sara Davidson shares 6 lessons from real-life people (including her own mother), who feel deeply in love in their Third Age.

In it she shares that her own mother met the love of her life when she was 84. She writes about women who reconnect with past boyfriends and the renewed love that they share. But my favorite? The fact that you can still meet someone wonderful who shares your same values and a desire to bring out the best in each other.

Finding Love After 25 Years

Perhaps my favorite part of this article was learning that Ellen Burstyn, the famous, award-winning actress, had spent 25 years without going on a single date.

In her memoir, Lessons in Becoming Myself, Burstyn shares that she had a bit of a wild 20s and knew that if she was going to find love she had to know herself first.

At 71, when she had gotten comfortable with herself, her life, and her career, she met the love of her life.

23 years her junior, she had actually met him previously at an audition at the Actor Studio when he was just 25. A mutual connection eventually re-introduced them and while Burstyn was reluctant because of their age differences, they got together quickly and moved in together not long after.

It’s Never “Too Late”

If you’ve found yourself thinking this or saying it to yourself this Valentine’s season, I hope you can take heart from some of these amazing stories.

It’s never too late to meet someone wonderful and maybe even the love of your life.

You just have to be open and start looking for love in the right places.

And if you want to dive more into Burstyn’s story, I highly recommend reading her wonderful memoir.
