Meet Eleanor Oliphant

Set in Edinburgh, Scotland, the novel follows Eleanor Oliphant as she struggles with social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. She spends her days avoiding others, carefully planning out her days, and her weekends are spent eating frozen pizza and enjoying vodka at home.

Her life gets thrown a curveball though when she saves Sammy, an eldery gentleman who’d fallen on the sidewalk. Her coworker Raymond, who works in IT, helps her with Sammy and soon the three become friends. As they help and then check on Sammy while he’s in hospital, the three become close and form a bond.

Their budding friendship helps to rescue each other from their isolated lives and Raymond’s gentle nature helps Eleanor to process her traumatic childhood and start to repair her own beliefs in people.
